Serious fun at Pan-African Comics’ awards ceremony
This is the first year that the Savanna Pan-African Comic of the Year Award was introduced, truly taking the Savanna CCA’s into Africa.
GREAT excitement ruled at the 7th SA Savanna Comics’ Choice Awards where Skhumbuzo ‘Skhumba’ Hlophe won two of the 11 awards on offer at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City on September 9.
He won the Flying Solo Award and Savanna Comic of the Year. Skhumba thanked his competitors after receiving a Waldo (the Savanna CCA’s statuette) which makes the awards one of the highest accolades a comedian can receive in South Africa, and Africa.
This is the first year the Savanna Pan-African Comic of the Year Award was introduced, truly taking the Savanna CCAs into Africa. It has been organisers’ vision for many years to expand into Africa and take the continent’s talent to the global stage. It’s exciting to see this vision come to life. It was won by Bright ‘Basketmouth’ Okpocha from Nigeria.
A highlight of every nominee announcement is the Lifetime Achiever award. This prestigious award is given to whoever has an act with 20 years’ or more experience in comedy. Cyril Green was this year’s recipient of the Lifetime Achiever award.
