South Africa celebrates diversity

“Thank you South Africa for Celebrating Diversity”, says Casual Day hosts

THIS year was an exceptional year for Casual Day as many gathered to dress in green or wear their casual day sticker.

“Thank you South Africa for your incredible support of Casual Day on September 1. Casual Day cannot exist without love and the people of South Africa coming out in their hundreds of thousands across the country to show their support. It is a very special day indeed – thank you for showing heart by celebrating diversity with persons with disabilities,” said Therina Wentzel, the national director of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD).

The NCPD’s annual Casual Day fund-raiser is SA’s largest and most popular event of its kind in the disability sector. All the funds that were raised on Casual Day go to support the needs of persons with disabilities. The theme for this year was ‘Celebrate diversity with persons with disabilities’.

Wentzel said creating an inclusive society starts when persons with disabilities are seen and celebrated as being part of this country’s wonderful diversity and strength. Casual Day is all about making a real difference. It builds understanding and creates inclusive spaces so all South Africans have equal access to economic and social opportunities.

“Thank you to the sponsors, all the companies, government departments and media that supported us. We thank all the NGOs that work hard to make the day a success, the schools that sold stickers and made posters and everyone who bought a sticker or dressed up and shared their love on Casual Day. Your support means the world to thousands of people,” concluded Wentzel.
