AFRIFORUM’S neighborhood watch has apprehended one of the 20 suspects that escaped custody recently.
The twenty escaped when the police truck they were transported in from Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court to Johannesburg Central Prison was ambushed on August 2.
A manhunt for the 20 was launched and at the time of print, six were apprehended and back behind bars.

On August 23 AfriForum, with the help of the South African Police Department (SAPD), SS Crime Alert and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s SWAT unit, apprehended Roland Barnard, one of the escapees.
On August 22, when the Police released names and photographs of suspects, AfriForum were made aware by SS Crime Alert where the suspect was.
AfriForum went to the scene and upon arrival of the EMPD SWAT Unit, searched the block of flats in the South of Johannesburg.
Barnard was discovered in the roof of one of the flats and was re-arrested.

“This is an excellent example of how successful emergency services and law-enforcement can be when they all strive for one goal,” said Louis van Aswegen, chairman for AfriForum’s Alberton branch of the neighborhood watch.
