WATCH: Vuyo’s garage robbed at gunpoint

One of the men was armed and had a firearm pointed at the teller.

THREE men fled with an undisclosed amount of money from Vuyo’s garage in the south of Johannesburg on Monday morning.

The three men, who inconspicuously made their way into the fuel station, calmly asked for the manager by name right before they demanded cash from the safe.

The owner of the fuel station, Ashraf Hoosen, said the men demanded cash from his store manager Cindi Xulu at around 7am.

One of the men was armed and held a firearm pointed at the teller. The armed suspect told everyone, including petrol attendants, to get behind the counter inside the store. The two unarmed suspects followed the instructions of the armed man.

According to Hoosen, the men took cash from the station’s cash register as well as staff members’ cellphones. “They also took the staff’s jackets in order to pretend they were employees of the fuel station when they were leaving, fleeing in a white minibus.”

Hoosen said Moffat View police were alerted and an armed robbery docket is being investigated.

He said investigating officers were on the scene, looking at footage and analysing the scene on Tuesday.

Store manager Xulu said she was terrified at the shocking turn of the morning’s events. “I was surprised when one of the men called me by my name and demanded cash,” she said.

Denying she was Xulu, at the time, she told the armed men she didn’t know who the person with that name was. The men proceeded with the robbery nonetheless.

The fuel station was fully operational by Tuesday and no injuries were reported.

No arrests have been made.
