Fun day for children and parents at Robertsham

It was a great day for children and adults alike.

ROBERTSHAM Sports Academy (RSA) hosted a fun day for all its members and their parents in Robertsham on May 21.

It was a great day for children and adults alike. The morning kicked off bright and early with the various divisions playing their weekly soccer matches. After two hours of immense fun on the courts it was time to get all the categories onto one field for some educational entertainment and inspiration.

The programme began with a beautiful recitation by one of the parents, Maulana Yunus Ali. The crowd was treated to heart-rending songs in various languages by Qari Umar Basheikh, Waleed Bata and Muhammad Saleh Subrati. The guests enthralled the audience and there was a positive atmosphere, with everyone joining in for the chorus.

In between the various artists’ performances, Maulana Ebrahim Bham of the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa delivered an inspirational talk on community efforts and social responsibility. Brother Tufail of Radio Islam entertained the children with an interactive programme which allowed the children to showcase their singing talents. A fun quiz was held across the different categories and winners were presented with trophies. RSA handed out tokens of appreciation to members of the community who have been instrumental in getting this project off the ground.

On March 12, the RSA officially launched its weekly indoor soccer league at the Robertsham Action Soccer Astro Turf courts on Giles Street, Robertsham. From humble beginnings the membership numbers have risen to 150 children over four divisions. The RSA also hosted a successful bike ride for the community in April. Children from all areas around the South of Johannesburg, as well as children from Greenside, Fietas and Kensington make up the roll of registered members.

The best was saved for last. The RSA in conjunction with Spur Boksburg/Lenasia arranged for a mobile Spur truck to come to the venue. Each member was allocated two free vouchers which allowed them to redeem full Spur burger meals. Muhammad Jassat, his wife Ayesha and their team from Spur Boksburg/Lenasia, worked tirelessly to ensure that over 300 burger meals were flying off the grills and into the happy hands of members.

An enjoyable morning came to an end with RSA officials networking with leading community members including local Clr Rashieda Landis and cricket commentator Aslam Khota, among others.
