Unkept land becoming a danger

Criminals can hide in the long grass ready to attack and rodents are also becoming a problem.

The Joburg Water Servitude near my house in Conroy Street, Suideroord is becoming a problem. I’ve reported it to City Parks and to Clr Sergio Dos Santos on many occasions but it has become more and more overgrown since December. The grass is getting longer with every rainstorm and it is a crime and health and safety hazard.

TERRIBLE: The Joburg Water Servitude in Conroy Street, Suideroord.

Criminals can hide in the long grass ready to attack when we come home and turn into our driveway. Fires are about to start in winter and it may already be infested with rodents, or even snakes from the nature reserve.

UNKEPT: One of the properties on Palling Place where the grass is overgrown.

Joburg Water staff come daily to inspect the servitude and I ask them to tell their superiors but all my pleas fall on deaf ears. As a resident of the South for 26 years, I fully understand the frustration of the community. Thank you.

Note: Councillor Sergio Dos Santos has been contacted for comment.

The CHRONICLE has also received numerous complaints about an unkept property on Palling Place in Mulbarton, which is also reportedly causing a rodent problem. Councillor Sarah Wissler has been contacted on numerous occasions and we are waiting for comment.
