Councillor calls for promised service delivery

Ward 124 ANC Clr Sidney Radebe is accusing the DA led municipality of dismally failing the people of johannesburg.

WARD 124 councillor Sidney Radebe says he is worried about the state of the ward. In his opinion, it continues to deteriorate and poses a threat to residents of the South.

On Tuesday, January 10, Clr Radebe invited the COURIER to three problem areas in Turffontein. He said these areas need urgent attention from the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), City Parks as well as Pikitup.

Radebe highlighted alleys full of overgrown bushes, areas that have turned into dumping sites and blind spots caused by overgrown grass at intersections.

“I have reported these issues to all the departments. The response I received was that they do not have the budget and manpower to deal with these issues. This is the type of service delivery we get from a DA-led municipality. We as councillors try to do our jobs by responding to the issues. But when service isn’t delivered, things become very difficult.

“The DA-led coalition in Johannesburg is dismally failing the people, hence I had to complain via the media,” said Clr Radebe.

The COURIER sent queries to the relevant bodies tasked with service delivery.

The JRA responded: “JRA confirms that concerns raised regarding maintenance of the service lane between Church and Standton streets were not formally logged.

“The matter has now been logged with ref 3500076 for attention of the JRA Region F Depot. JRA will attend to the matter is due course. However, at this stage we are prioritising the repair of potholes, which has a significant impact on traffic and road safety.

“JRA urges members of the public and councillors to report issues pertaining to roads and storm water via 0860 562 874 or hotline@jra.org.za or Twitter @MyJra or through the the JRA Find&Fix app.”

City Parks and Pikitup had not responded to the COURIER at the time of going to print. An update will follow.
