Crèche owners graduate from skills training

“The End of a matter is better than the Beginning……’’ Ecclesiastics 7 v 8.

BELIEVERS Care Society (BCS) in Turffontein hosted its first graduation ceremony for the Project Management for Early Childhood Development (ECD) owners and staff of the local crèches on Saturday, July 9.

They invited owners of ECD centres (crèches) and their staff members in February 2016 to apply for a skills development opportunity. It was initiated to assist them in running their crèches professionally. BCS also provided mentorship that will ensure that children under the crèches’ care are properly taken care of, especially the orphans and vulnerable children. The project was run in partnership with the United States President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR).

Twenty-eight crèche owners and their staff have now competently completed their accredited skills training course in FETC: Project Management, SAQA ID: 50080. The course ran for five months.

A new group of 35 crèches in the South have already begun the second course of the training project, which started on July 11.

Thando Mayeza from BCS thanked everyone who attended the graduation event. “Special thanks to Lucky Thusi from Caxton for gracing the occasion. Special thanks also to Clr Rashieda Landis from ward 55, Cristianne Wendler and Mihlali Mlonyeni from US Government through PEPFAR, USAID. Also thanks to the City of Johannesburg ECD department and BCS staff members,” she said.

The mentorship programme will now continue for the graduates, to ensure that their learning is put into practice in their respective crèches.
