CHILDREN at Cotlands in Turffontein were over the moon when a special guest and current Mrs World, Candice Abrahams, visited on Thursday, May 26.

Her visit was ahead of World Play Day celebrated on May 28. This exciting new feature on Cotlands’ calendar offers children the opportunity to explore new ways of learning and gives adults a chance to connect with their inner child.

While fun is a key ingredient on this day, it is important to remember that play is more than that. Play is a right for all children because children learn through play and it is crucial that we, as adults, understand its importance and encourage children to discover the world around them in a fun and safe way.

To mark World Play Day, Cotlands has embarked on a series of projects that will highlight the importance of play in a child’s development.

“We are excited to once again host World Play Day in South Africa. This important event serves to highlight the importance of play in addressing developmental delays in vulnerable children as well as encourage people of all ages to embrace the creativity that play unleashes,” said Cotlands CEO Jackie Schoeman.

This year’s theme ‘Making Sense of Play’ lends itself to an array of activities aimed at stimulating children’s sense of sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing and their two lesser known senses of proprioception (the perception of body awareness in space) and vestibular (the perception of balance or acceleration).
