Champions Day is family fun day

Intercontinental Village Day at Turffontein Racecourse.

THE INTERCONTINENTAL Village Day will attract all the communities in the South and will go down as a must-attend family fun day.

Champions Day which incorporates the Intercontinental Village Day, will take place this Saturday, April 30, at the Turffontein Racecourse.

The horse racing fraternity will get together to watch some of the best racing in South Africa. The R4-million Premier Champions Challenge, the brand new name for the main race and richest unrestricted thoroughbred, will be run over 2 000m.

Apart from the main race the racegoers will be treated to the last leg of the Triple Crown when an attempt by Abashiri will be launched to become only the third horse to win all three legs of the South African Derby.

Dress code will be black and orange in support of Abashiri and jockey Karl Zechner, as their racing colours are black and orange. One lucky fan will win a best dressed prize, a R5 000 shopping voucher.

The communities, China, India, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Lebanon and South Africa will each have a charity of their choice together with a media partner and horse. The racing horse will represent the charity and according to the placing in the main race will win for their charity. Phumelela has made a whopping R150 000 available and each charity will win a portion of it in relation to the placing of the horse.

The Intercontinental Village Day will also showcase tradition, community and foods from around the globe.

A display of 40 Ferraris will also be at the Turffontein Racecourse. One racegoer will stand a chance to win a Ferrari experience at Turffontein on the day. The winner will go into the draw to win a VIP experience at the Kyalami Ferrari Day on July 23.

Book your seat in the Aquanaut Room where guests can enjoy a five course buffet meal in a more formal setting, with magnificent views of the racecourse. Cost is R425 per person and includes live entertainment.
