De Freitas visits Jafta Retirement Village

Cllr Dennis Jane said that despite the excellent services offered, Jafta’s rates continue to be very competitive and continue to beat most of similar homes in the city.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – On Friday October  23, Member of Parliament for Johannesburg South, Manny de Freitas MP and ward 56 councillor, Dennis Jane visited the Jafta Retirement Village.

De Freitas said that this visit reinforced his perception that he had from his last visit to this retirement village; that of a well-managed and caring retirement village.

De Freitas said that it was clear that the residents of Jafta are made to feel comfortable, are well looked after and are treated with the respect that they deserve. “All too often one hears horror stories of how our senior folk are treated with disrespect and abused,” explained de Freitas, “but in the case of Jafta, all residents enjoy the highest quality of treatment in every way.” De Freitas said that this was clear from his walk-about and interaction with the residents.

Cllr Jane expressed his concern at the low occupancy rate of about 75% when it should be 95%. This makes it very difficult for Jafta to break even. Expenses are at just under R1-million rand per month, presently they are around R200 000,00 short every month. “Increasing the occupancy would close this shortfall,” explained Cllr Jane.

Manny de Freitas said that if more people knew about Jafta and its high standard of services it offers more applications would be forthcoming. “I hope our visit will be the start of this much-needed publicity that Jafta needs,” said de Freitas.
