Local residents recognized at CSI awards

Peermont CSI Awards for the local community achievers.

LOCAL residents were rewarded for their efforts during the year at the inaugural Peermont CSI awards held at Emperors Palace on Tuesday, August 25.

Peermont proudly celebrated the work conducted within local communities such as Thokoza, Katlehong and Vosloorus. In 2014 Peermont contributed over R24 million to these and other communities in the surrounding areas of their operations.

The Peermont CSI programme consists of four pillars and projects are recognised under education, youth development, environment and entrepreneurial enrichment.

Residents recognised for their dedication and commitment included Peermont Education Trust Alumni’s Dr Mbuti Lumata, Nageng Primary School’s Kukie Mampuru and Julia Mahlanya, Fortune Kunene Primary School’s Ntombi Koetle and R.P Maphanzela Primary School’s Criselda Msobela and Georgina Mabona. Lesedi Skills Programme graduates were Tsholofelo Dikobe, Senzo Mlambo, Nqaba Siboyana, Sakie Manyape, Asenathi Mqele, Brian Sikhosana, Pontsho Mabitsela and Mveleli Va.

In order to improve the matric pass rate, Peermont also sponsors 250 learners at Star Schools with extra lessons in mathematics, English and physical science.

“Providing disadvantaged children and youth with educational tools and access to quality education remains a vital and important aspect of our business. The levels of learning start from the foundation phase and continue through to university with bursaries and learner career development,” said Vusi Zwane, corporate affairs executive for the Peermont Group.

“Our programmes have a natural progression and we have instituted a pipeline that starts with the foundation school years and continues until the youth become economically active, either through full-time employment or by starting their own businesses.”
