ER24 joins ladies at CAT for CPR revision

Purpose of revision trainings was for ladies to not forget the basic yet lifesaving rules of CPR

ER24 paramedics were at the recent Community Awareness Training (CAT) meeting to find out if the ladies still remember the valuable lifesaving CPR rules which they were taught a few weeks ago in Glenvista.

The founder of CAT, Sarah Wissler, said the purpose of revision training was for ladies to not forget the basic lifesaving rules of CPR.

Robert Morley and Mauro Siccardi from the ER24 Johannesburg South branch came fully prepared with demonstration manikins to do CPR on.

Siccardi stressed that the safety of the person assisting is what should come first. “Before rushing out to help, whether it’s a baby, a child or an adult, always make sure that the scene is safe. Remember we spoke about a dead rescuer is a useless rescuer, you can’t save anybody’s life otherwise,” said Siccardi.

A scenario was given where a person was drowning in the pool and the domestic had to save them but couldn’t swim. Siccardi said they should make a plan to get the person out of the pool by either calling for help or trying to pull them out with a pool brush or a hook. “Nobody should endanger themselves by jumping into the pool,” Siccardi concluded.
