Alberton author’s novel launched

An author from Alberton has launched his much anticipated first novel

AN author from Alberton has launched his much anticipated book on April 15, to the excitement of all those who are fans of his work.

Having been in the print industry for twenty-nine years, Schalk Schoombie has finally published his first novel titled Boomkastele.

“It’s my book about the South of Johannesburg and my love letter to trees, because I’ve learned to appreciate them during the writing of this book and even more so today,” he said.

The inspiration for his book was experiencing a neighbour cutting the trees between their homes without his permission. “What happens afterwards is purely fictional,” explained Schoombie.

His favourite tree is the Jacaranda, because it holds a special meaning Schoombie, not only reminding him that he hails from Pretoria and how, as a child, he always gave his mother the purple blooms of the tree.

The book is now in stores like Exclusive Books and his colleagues at Caxton Local Newspapers are bursting with pride at his achievement.
