LICO inspired by smiles of disabled

Support received from South businesses contributes a great deal in the work for the mentally and physically disabled.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Support received from South businesses contributes a great deal in the work that the Lenasia Inter-Cultural Organisation (LICO) is able to do for the mentally and physically disabled.

LICO comprises residents of Bassonia, Mondeor, East Cliff, Oakdene, Winchester Hills and Lenasia, who came together to give a helping hand to those who can’t do it for themselves.

Member of LICO, Deva Naidoo said they once again brought Easter joy to the Ikhwezilokusa Home for the Mentally and Physically Disabled Children and the homeless adults in De Deur.

“LICO acknowledges our most sincere gratitude to all those humanitarian sponsors and donors, especially the philanthropist Jake Lalloo for supporting this noble cause in the feeding scheme of this home,” said Naidoo.

The Ikhwezilokusa Home, meaning the rising star, is next to Ironside Motors on plot 195/3, Malherbe Street in De Deur.

According to LICO, this Home was established by founder and Director Lillian Dyarvane and husband Jerome Dyarvane in Lenasia South in 1994, and has since moved to De Deur. This was done in response to the dire need to care and create a permanent family environment for children with special needs through the assistance of the wife of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Regina Nzo.

The Home takes care of 30 moderately to profoundly disabled children and ten adults on a 24-hour basis. The residents are stimulated and taught daily by trained caregivers.
