Security officer admits involvement in robbery

Footage showed the officer allowing two trucks to load jewellery worth R5 million, copper worth R4 million and R1 million in cash.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The Johannesburg Court sentenced a security officer and one other suspect on Thursday March 26, after the security officer admitted to participating in a Steeldale business robbery in 2014.

Moffatview SAPS’ Detective Letsoalo quickly established that the security officer was involved in the robbery after viewing camera footage, which showed the officer opening the gate for the suspects and two trucks to load jewellery worth R5 million, copper worth R4 million and R1 million in cash.

The security officer admitted his involvement during an interrogation and volunteered to show the police where the other suspects were hiding, although they could not be found.

Of all the money stolen, only R19 000 in cash was recovered and eight suspects are still at large.
