Exciting new concept for Rietvlei Zoo Farm

It will appeal to all ages, gender and race and sightseers will be able to enjoy the historical and geographical charm of this miniature site.

JO Polmeer, from Raceview, Alberton, has come up with an amazing new concept, which will fit in perfectly at Rietvlei Zoo Farm.

Chatting to Jo, she explained her new endeavour, Our Land Past, Present and Future which will be based on South African places of interest, local and national, such as famous buildings, churches, golf course, railway station, post office, shops, statues, wonky house, fairyland, African villages, an airport and many other interesting miniature buildings.

“I came up with the idea many years ago after I’d visited England and seen miniature villages in which families could walk around and enjoy. The model buildings will be built to a scale of about 0.305 metre (12 inches) and an area has already been set aside for the project. I’m so excited that my idea is at last coming to fruition,” said Jo.

It will appeal to all ages, gender and race and sightseers will be able to enjoy the historical and geographical charm of this miniature site.

An added bonus, Jo is a miniaturist and has had a love for this for many years. “There will be lots of work to do before the opening and we’ll be looking for sponsors who can assist pavement artists to make structures out of wood, bricks, tin and plastic. The miniature buildings will all be built with natural products. We’ll also be looking for retired residents who will be able to come along and help with the miniature site, both before and after the opening.

“An important part of this ‘creation’ will be the architectural side, so if you are a retired architect or if you know of one who will be willing to assist with this project, we’d love to welcome you aboard,” added Jo.

As well as individual interest, schools could also very well get involved. “For younger and older learners this could be a very interesting project,” said Jo.
