Cllr Faeeza’s New Year resolutions

More visibility of SAPS and JMPD patrolling in the streets is Faeeza's priority.

WITH the beginning of a New Year come New Year’s resolutions.

Let me start by thanking our matriculant’s that passed, you are our future leaders; the community of ward 57 for their support during 2014.

I would also like to thank our folks who have worked tirelessly during the festive season in police, emergency services, health services, retail, hospitality trades, security, media, ward committee members and our educators for putting in the extra effort to make sure that our learners get the best education.

Not to forget to thank the Churches and local organizations that went the extra mile to assist those less fortunate than others.

Service delivery is my main concern and so is the well being of the community. I want to build a strong relationship with my residents to iron out all the service delivery issues: sewerage drains overflow; long grass; potholes; street lights; traffic signals and the council units that are not maintained on a regular basis.

There will be big changes affecting our areas, South Hills and Moffat View and the surrounding with the development of the new homes.

Sometimes we have to agree that change is good, it might affect others in a good way and it might not be so good to some residents. However, I would like to see that we all benefit from this development in some way. I am very excited to announce that Moffat View police station and our local swimming pool will also benefit from this project.

I would like to get the community to attend more public meetings because by doing so you gain knowledge from learning to know what is happening in your area.

Also, I want to see more visibility of SAPS and JMPD patrolling our streets and take control of the crime and grime that is invading our area.

I know not everything is going to be easy but I like to take on new challenges and by working more with the community we can make a big difference together. Remember, it is our area and the onus is on us to keep it safe and clean and maintain it accordingly.

I want to share with you some tips that can make little changes in our everyday lives.

1 Do not text and drive; you endanger other people.

2 Be more punctual.

3 Do something out of your comfort zone.

4 Bring more to the table at every meeting (Speak up and voice your opinion).

5 Be more willing to talk to others and learn something about them.

6 Be more involved in your community.

7 Refrain from gossiping and listening to gossip and you will be more of a trustworthy person and engage in more productive conversations.

8 Spend time to de-clutter your home, there are a lot of unfortunate people in our area.

9 Pay a visit to our senior homes, our seniors can be lonely.

10 Blow the whistle if you suspect anything that does not look or seems right.

I would like to see the community embrace public anticipation, and let us make 2015 our year. We can learn from our mistakes in the past and correct them in the future.

Thank you

Ward 57 DA Councillor
