Linmeyer man dies from injuries after attack

Suspects are wanted for the murder of the elderly Linmeyer man who was attacked in his Lena Street home on Friday August 29, after he passed away on Wednesday evening September 10.

LINMEYER –  “We are all devastated that dad has died. He passed away last night at about 21:00 on his 81st birthday.  Mom was discharged that same morning and I don’t think the reality of his death has hit her yet. She has had six plates and 28 screws inserted in her face,” said the son.

“The family are sickened by what has happened and we are offering a substantial reward for information which will lead to the suspects being convicted. To viciously attack two old people is beyond words. We thank everyone who has given their love and support during this tragedy. It means so much to us.”

The couple lived in their home on Lena Street, Linmeyer for 42 years.

The brutal attack on the couple has raised concerns by residents in Linmeyer. “This used to be such a safe and peaceful suburb. Over the last few years there have been quite a few violent robberies and attacks on residents and we don’t feel safe in our homes anymore.

“During the day Linmeyer streets are relatively quiet, although Lena Street is a main thoroughfare for traffic coming from Comaro Street, Oakdene to The Hill and surrounding areas.

“Every time I see any people walking in the street, I feel afraid now. This is a terrible way to live,” said a resident of Lena Street, who wishes to remain anonymous.

“This leafy suburb has certainly seen its share of violent crime over the past few years. We moved here from La Rochelle about 20 years ago and have loved living here. Now we are thinking seriously about moving,” said a Linmeyer resident.

  1. I am absolutely devastated to see what has happened to South Africa since I left there 21 years ago. I grew up in Mondeor and remember riding my bicycle in the veld across the road from my house back when it was safe. My heart goes out to all those people who just want a peaceful life and haven’t been able to leave the country. I don’t think it is going to get any better for a long, long time.
