Career day expo for Grade 9 learners

The grade nines are the future of this country

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – At least 250 grade nine learners from secondary schools in the South of Johannesburg attended a career day expo at the Johannesburg Expo Centre on Wednesday August 27.

The career building and special day was hosted by almost all government service departments, with experienced SAPS and metro police officers, paramedics, professional nurses, prison warders, health and communications officers educating the learners about the requirements to qualify for public service occupations.

This was a great day for many of the learners, who never actually knew how the applications processes work and which school subjects would be a prerequisite to pursue occupations of their choice.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar made it clear to the learners that they are the future and that it was important that grade nines are informed about the many careers they can follow within numerous government departments.

“I am very happy to be here today. This is a great day as we are able to explain to the learners what will be needed if they decide to become the next JMPD officers. This gives us the opportunity to explain to them what officers do, what is the meaning of the blue lights and what different JMPD professionals do within the department,” he said.

It was a day which saw the learners asking some of the vital questions and showing great interest. Some of the learners showed they had already decided they would love to become Metro police officers as they asked question to members of the metro and recognised Wayne Minnaar a mile away.

SAPS, Emergency Service, Environmental Health, and members of other departments were kept busy by the learners’ questions and interest.
