Councillor Faeeza Chame targets commercial development

New Ward 57 Councillor, Faeeza Chame has set her priorities on making sure commercial development happens in a sensible way.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – 46-year-old Faeeza Chame from Kenilworth is now the person to talk to when you need municipal help in Ward 57. She earned people’s trust when the majority of ward 57 voted for her.

Faeeza, also known as Fay, is the Councillor replacing Bev Turk, who left the Democratic Alliance (DA) for a new political home in the African National Congress (ANC).

Fay won the by-election by a great margin of 66.09 per cent on Wednesday July 2, followed by ANC’s Bev Turk, who averaged 33.61 per cent, while the lowest percentage went to the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP’s) Lwazi Jali who received 0.31 per cent of the votes.

Fay has become popular for her selfless public services in the Ward, helping people without the presence of the media. Today many of her supporters are happy to see her elected to speak on behalf of Ward 57, as she strives to better the lives of the people.

Fay is married to ‘a wonderful husband’, together they have children who have grown and show her support and love all the time.

Fay’s message to residents of Ward 57

“I would like to thank all the residents of ward 57 who voted for me in this by-election, and remind them that we all need to work together to ensure change.

“My priorities will be to ensure that commercial development happens in a sensible way so that our heritage and culture is respected, irrespective of race, colour, gender or creed,” Fay said.

What you might not know about Faeeza

She is a family oriented person who was brought up in a very strict fashion. Her parent’s motto was: ‘If you want something, work for it’, and that is what she taught her children.

Fay used to enter modelling competitions in the name of charity, to help those in need. Her family distributes meals to the jobless and the homeless in the streets.

She loves the feeling of doing good for others. He hobbies are flower arranging, decorating and gardening. Fay is currently a Bookkeeper and Salary Administrator.

A vote of thanks

“I wish I could name all of them, but the list will go on and on. I would like to thank my husband and my family, because there were days when I did not have time to cook a decent meal as we were out in the field canvassing.

“I also want to thank my activists who were amazing when we were working for many days, and some in the bracing cold and others in the burning heat.

“I also want to thank the councillors who were behind me all the way. Last but not least, I want to thank our old age homes in the area. Thank you all once again, I could not have done it without you all,” added Fay.
