Help JSPCA in the cold months

All donations are welcome and, for every R500 received, one cat or dog in an underprivileged area will be sterilised, vaccinated and dewormed.

REUVEN – Winter is upon us, and that means the Johannesburg SPCA (JSPCA) is gearing up for the big freeze.

On the highveld, the nights and early mornings are particularly bitter during the long winter months. JSPCA therefore needs to provide warm bedding, nourishing food and medical care for the animals under its protection.

Johannesburg SPCA also needs to step up their sterilisation programme to ensure that the population of unwanted animals in Joburg doesn’t increase dramatically in the spring. That is why Johannesburg SPCA is inviting you, their loyal supporters, to help them to do this.

All donations are welcome and, for every R500 received, one cat or dog in an underprivileged area will be sterilised, vaccinated and dewormed.

Daphne is just one of the many animals JSPCA recently been helped.

While making their daily rounds, two of the Outreach Officers were approached by a man of obviously limited means. His dog, Daphne, was in good condition – it was clear she was loved and cared for – but she needed to be sterilised. Her owner couldn’t afford the services of a vet and did not even have transport to get to one.

The JSPCA expert team transported Daphne to JSPCA’s hospital, where she was sterilised, vaccinated and dewormed for free. A day later, she was returned to her owner with a warm blanket, a lead and a collar with a JSPCA tag on it.

The Outreach Team has since had a follow-up visit with Daphne and her owner. They report that she is well and happy and enjoying her lovely warm blanket.

Making your donation

Although the JSPCA offer so many critical services, they currently receive no government or Lotto funding, and depend on donations, bequests and corporate sponsorships to help Joburg’s animals.

You can help them to help many more animals just like Daphne, so please consider making a donation to our Sterilisation Campaign. You can use their online donations facility on their website www.jhbspca.co.za or make an EFT / direct deposit into the JSPCA bank account.
