WATCH: CIT heist in The Hill results in damage to nearby flat

Some residents in the nearby flat left picking up glass from their broken windows.

The big bang from an explosion that went out during a cash-in-transit heist on South Rand Road in The Hill this Thursday afternoon left flat windows shattered.

Steve Dwarika, owner of Guardian Angel Security (GAS) said about six to eight suspects bombed and opened fire on the G4S cash van at about 3:00 pm.

“The suspects forced the G4S guards out of the vehicle and disarmed them before detonating explosives to gain access to the cash in the safe,” he said.

Dwarika said the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money in an Audi A4 and a White Mercedes Benz.

“The white Audi triggered a camera at 15:01 on South Rand Road heading towards the R59 and the Mercedes-Benz a few seconds before it,” said Dwarika.

The two guards did not sustain any injuries, however, they were treated by paramedics on the scene.

He added the suspects are still at large as the investigation continues.
