Comedian’s kidnapper caught

A suspect involved in the hijacking and kidnapping of comedian was arrested in Johannesburg North.

GLENANDA – A man linked to the kidnapping case of well-known comedian, Phillip Ganja, was caught on February 24 by police in the Northern suburbs.

Mondeor Police spokesperson Sibongile Mnguni informed the CHRONICLE that Warrant Officer Nel and the Mondeor SAPS Trio Tracing team had successfully arrested the suspect following an investigation into the kidnapping which made national headlines.

The story of the hijacking and kidnapping was reported in the CHRONICLE on February 21 after police officers found Ganja and his brother abandoned at Balfour Mall after they had been robbed of R25 000. The exact amount stolen from the comedian and his brother is still unknown, as Ganja had withdrawn R5 000 at The Glen Shopping Centre before the kidnapping ordeal.

Warrant Officer Mnguni also revealed that the two brothers are new to Johannesburg from Cape Town and didn’t even know where they were when asked by police.

Before they were abandoned at the mall, they had been held hostage in Alexandra Township, before they were taken to the bank for the withdrawal of the money.

The comedian said he suspected that they may have been followed from The Glen Shopping Centre.
