Cable thief gets a shock of his life

A man was killed instantly when he attempted to steal electric cables in Robertsham.

ROBERTSHAM – Cable thief in Harry Street, Robertsham was electrocuted this morning around 04:00 when he tried to steal live electric cables.

He was stuck between the cables as he got burnt. “The fire brigade team is struggling to put the body down as he is stuck there,” said one of the eyewitnesses.

Byron Vanrensburg wrote of the COURIER facebook page, “Cable thief hangs from lamppost in Harry Street trying to steal cables. Instant death.”

Cable theft is rife in the South, almost now and then; thieves steal cables and inconvenienced other residents.

  1. It was bound to happen,however the scrap metal dealers are also to blame as they buy these type of goods without asking questions. In so doing they are fueling this cable theft.serious consideration should be made to establish a scrap metal clearance unit, where a clearance Is given to proceed with the sale of any form of cable or metal.johannesburg has become a haven for metal thieves and nothing is being done to get it under control
