Youth unite in sport

Teams that won were awarded with medals and trophies, other entertainment involved a fashion show and dancing by young people from Turffontein.

TURFFONTEIN – Rotunda Park in Turffontein hosted a South Johannesburg Youth Sport Festival on Saturday November 23.

It was supported by the Ward 124 Clr Sydney Radebe, Gauteng Province Department of Sports, Art, Culture and Recreation, loveLife, SANCA and Booysens Youth Desk.

Clr Radebe encouraged young people to keep on taking part in such sports events because it helps them to improve and gain knowledge and it helps individual participants to achieve the aim of developing the community for the better. “In 2015 the government will develop and renovate Rotanda Park and put on new facilities for different sporting codes for the youth as this park is one of the most active parks,” he said.

SANCA also gave their input about the event; as the stakeholder they encouraged the youth to stay away from drugs and alcohol because it has destroyed the lives of young people in South Africa. They said the legal alcohol user should use alcohol responsibly and they urged young people to make use of their services.

Sindi Ntwayaborwa, a young person from loveLife motivated the youth on the day. “Life is always on play and never on pause, meaning that yesterday will never be the same as today or tomorrow, don’t be a youth that stands in one place, make your move and be the stars of tomorrow, the businessmen and women of tomorrow for South Africa,” she said.

She also mentioned that the event was such a huge success, people who attended showed great support from different races and tribes, sport festival really brought ubuntu among people. Different sport codes participated; soccer, netball, volleyball and basketball.
