The aftermath of the fire. The fire swept through the house and everything in the house was destroyed.

THE  family in Ladybrand Street, South Hills lost everything when their home was gutted by fire in the early hours of April 23.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown, but according to the owner of the house, Brandi Manyengaban, who was sleeping in the lounge, she saw a light in the bedroom and thought she might not have switched off the lights.
When she opened the bedroom door, she was met with flames and quickly rescued her children as the fire swiftly spread.

“It all happened so fast, I couldn’t help but get the children. I tried to extinguish the fire with water, but all that yielded nothing.
“All our house belongings are torched. We as a family don’t know where to go,” she said.

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame said, “When I was alerted in the morning (April 23), I immediately went to visit the family. I was met by the owner of the property, Solomon Xaba. He was clearly shaken by what has happened. Luckily no one was injured and everyone in the house escaped unharmed.
