The department has been compiling monthly statistics since September 2018 and has become a tool of reflection for officers, as well as informing residents. Safety remains a key concern for many of our residents. Though policing remains a provincial and national competency, per the Constitution, within its limited mandate, the JMPD is working hard to increase the levels of safety within our communities.

On releasing the December 2018 statistics, chief of Police at JMPD David Tembe said the crime stats were low in December because of the police visibility. He wants to thank the SAPS and the JMPD

Buya Mthetho will be intensified. We have seen our loopholes and that will be rectified, added Tembe.
