Support Hike4Purpose’s climb towards positive change

Hike4Purpose wants to support Trek4Mandela to collect even more sanitary products for Caring4Girls.

A recently established group, Hike4Purpose, with a co-founder who is a Robertsham resident and owns a business in Alberton, will participate in the Trek4Mandela initiative next year from July 13 to 20. They would like to create awareness and earn the South’s support for their mission.

Hike4Purpose

Hike4Purpose was established earlier this year by six entrepreneurs, one of whom is Kabira Dewan, franchisee of Mochachos, New Redruth. They established this team after drawing inspiration from the annual Trek4Mandela expedition. Hike4Purpose will, by participating in Trek4Mandela 2019, further aid its cause, the Caring4Girls initiative.

Trek4Mandela

Trek4Mandela is an annual expedition to summit Mount Kilimanjaro on Mandela Day, July 18. It was established as an initiative within the Imbumba Foundation in 2011 by social entrepreneur and humanitarian Richard Mabaso.

Trek4Mandela brings together inspired individuals from corporate and public backgrounds to assist in raising funds and creating awareness for the Caring4Girls programme, another initiative within the Imbumba Foundation.

Caring4Girls

Caring4Girls has a passion to distribute feminine sanitary products, provide health education on puberty and adolescence to demystify menstrual related myths, and to break down societal taboos, in aid of girls from poor backgrounds.

Research has revealed that girls from poor backgrounds could miss up to 50 days of school each year due to not being able to afford sanitary products. Thus, menstruation is a barrier to education for many girls, restricting their opportunities for involvement in educational and sports activities.

You can help too – support Hike4Purpose

Hike4Purpose wants to support Trek4Mandela to collect even more sanitary products for Caring4Girls – the goal is to support one million girls in 2019. In order to be able to do this, each participant must raise R85 000.

This fee will cover various necessary aspects, such as flight fees, climbing gear, training sessions, Kilimanjaro Park fees, and others (see contact details below for more details on these aspects). Needless to say, Hike4Purpose will be having a few fund-raisers in the near future.

All community members are invited to attend these fund-raisers, the first of which will be taking place on December 12 at The Parker’s Comedy Club, Monte Casino. To book tickets, visit www.tixsa.co.za. A line-up of renowned comedians will have you in stitches for a good cause.

Companies who appreciate sponsorship opportunities are especially welcome to help Hike4Purpose, as the entrepreneurs in this team have wonderful opportunities to offer in return for kind sponsorships.

Please follow “Hike4Purpose” on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn if you have any questions, would like to show your support, or to keep up with their latest news. Also, feel free to follow the hashtags – #Caring4Girls, #Hike4Purpose, #ImbumbaFoundation and #Trek4Mandela.

HIKE4PURPOSE CO-FOUNDER: Kabira Dewan, one of the co-founders of Hike4Purpose and franchisee of Mochachos, New Redruth. She will be joined by Nomalanga Sithole, Isabel Tapfumaneyi, Asanda Gcoyi, Seema Pillay and Nolan Pillay.
