The workers were in rampage as they wanted answers to why their employment contract was terminated and they want their jobs back.

Workers protested with placards stating that they need their jobs back with a new and longer contract.

“We feel robbed and unfavoured by Calgro because we were only hired last month on September 10 and now we are out of jobs. What we want is our jobs back so that we can be able to provide for our families.

“It pains us to see a project in our area but we as local residents are not allowed to work. This is South Hills project, we must work. We won’t allow Calgro to hire people who are not living in our area,” said Kgeketla Ndlangisa.

One of the workers told COURIER previous workers were given R160 a day while they had to settle for R150.

Ward 57 PSC Secretary Freid Davids said, “The dispute between the workers and Calgro was solved. The legitimate community appointed PSC made a successful intervention during a labour dispute between development company Calgro and the employees. The outcome of the PSC intervention yielded positive results in that all the laid-off workers were unconditionally re-instated with immediate effect.”
