Service delivery a menace to residents

Residents talk more protests against poor service delivery.

OVER the past months, some residents took their anger to streets barricading it with stones, burning tyres and branch trees over service delivery. The COURIER asked readers what their thoughts are on service delivery protests.

SOMIKAZI MARCHENE: “This is a sensitive issue. Government should reach out to people in order to shape South Africa. But residents shouldn’t protest in a violent manner.”
ELDEN COETZEE: “Service delivery has been a debacle between the government and residents and nothing can change that. The government can’t maintain large numbers of people that are in need of sanitation, electricity and many more so it’s useless to protest.”
WANDA MINI: “Residents should protest if the government doesn’t meet their basic needs. But, protests should be peaceful, not harmful.”
EVA NGCOBO: “It’s not right to protest for service delivery. Residents should table their concerns with the ward councillor of that particular area because most of the protests end up in disaster.”
