House in Rosettenville needs attention

The community is looking for urgent intervention from the council to at least remedy the situation because it is dire.

GARDEN Street in Rosettenville has one of the filthiest houses in the South.

The community is looking for urgent intervention from the council to remedy the situation because it is dire.

Ward 56 committee member Gareth Dorrington, who is responsible for infrastructure and services, said the council owes it to the community to intervene.

“How much longer must we be ignored? I have asked everyone including the mayor to help, yet we get ignored, why? Surely the city council has an obligation to residents when it comes to filth?

“I am not blaming ward 56 Councillor Michael Crichton but the community gets no support from the City of Johannesburg. City council needs to act soon. Residents are very upset and are threatening to take to the streets again,” he said.

Crichton said he knows about the house in Garden Street and he is trying by all means to intervene.

“This is one of the properties that is being investigated by the forensic team. The owners of the house do not want to take responsibility for cleaning the house as it poses health risks. I will again, together with the environmental health department, visit the house and issue a warning to comply with the laws of the city,” he said.
