Shootout in Mulbarton

“The suspects fled in a silver Volvo motor vehicle with the registration plate DN67VH GP, possibly working with a white Mercedes Benz,” added Fontes.

A SHOOTOUT ensued on Kliprivier Drive, Mulbarton on Monday, June 18 during peak hour traffic late in the afternoon.

According to Mike Fontes, chairman of Glenvista Community Policing Forum, four armed robbers opened fire on a motorist using high powered assault rifles in a robbery.

“It is believed the motorist was followed from Fordsburg when one of the tyres of the vehicle he was driving was shot out and he was robbed on Kliprivier Drive, Mulbarton.

“The robbers then opened fire on a private security vehicle driving past, perhaps thinking him to be responding to the robbery. The security guard was shot in the hand but managed to get away from his assailants and drove into Liefde en Vrede away from the robbers.

“CPF members from Mondeor Sector 1 CPF administered first aid to the guard and handed him over to Med Help Paramedics in a stable condition while other CPF members closed Kliprivier Drive to preserve the crime scene before handing same to JMPD and Mondeor SAPS.

“The suspects fled in a silver Volvo motor vehicle with registration plate DN 67 VH GP, possibly working with a white Mercedes Benz,” added Fontes.

“We found many spent cartridges on the scene and it is a miracle that the targets were not more severely injured and that no members of the public were harmed, especially as people were making their way home during busy rush hour traffic. They could easily have been caught in the shooting.”

According to Fontes the security guard is recovering.
