South Hill’s residents in soccer tournament

Soccer tournament in celebration of Youth Day.

RESIDENTS from South Hills played in the Top 8 Tournament at Motsoaledi in Soweto in celebrating Youth Day on June 16.

The purpose of this tournament was to commemorate the icons of 1976 and also to inspire the youth of today to get themselves educated.

Teams from Soweto, Alexander, Vosloorus and Vaal participated in the tournament. Spectators of the tournament were kept on their feet as players kept on showing their soccer skills.

Hosana Ndlovu from South Hills said: “This tournament was only for people who are working and between the age of 30 to 50.”

He further explained that they may be old timers now but back in 1976 they were the youth.

“We were six guys representing South Hills and I hope that tournaments of this nature can be staged every year not only in Soweto but in different areas.”

The South Hills team was eliminated in the second round of the tournament but gave an impressive performance. At the end of the day, every team came together and celebrated Youth Day with drinks and meat and also sharing their memories of 1976.
