Sewage spillage leaves an awful stench in Stamford Street, Forest Hill

This is causing a right royal mess, not to mention the unpleasant odour which is emanating from this as well.

FOREST Hill residents in Stamford Street had to endure an unbearable stench of sewage since April 24.

Santosh Pamanundh, a resident of Stamford Street, said sewers are being replaced in the area.

“The contractor working in Stamford Street dug a large hole which may have resulted in a blocked or broken pipe and this has led to the hole filling up with sewage which is overflowing onto the street. This is causing a right royal mess, not to mention the unpleasant odour which is emanating from this as well.

“A few of the residents contacted Johannesburg Water (JW) who has responded by sending out their own team. However, they cannot assist because the contractor that has been assigned to change the sewer has been outsourced to independent contractors who caused the problem,” explained Pamanundh.

According to the emails sent to the COURIER, the local councillor of Ward 55, Clr Rashieda Landis, has been notified about this matter.

Molly Netshimbolimbo (from the stakeholder relation department of JW) and Eleanor Mavimbela (external communication officer at JW) were contacted and a reference number (ref: 401628014) was issued.

MESS: Sewage spills over onto Stamford Street in Forest Hill.

Mavimbela said, “I’m going to escalate the matter to the depot manager to see if we can’t find a resolution. I will communicate feedback as soon as possible.”

The COURIER is trying to find out who is the contractor responsible for this mess and will keep our readers updated.
