Baloyi to coach team in Africa 5’s

JOHANNESBURG-based Milano Football Club was crowned the 2018 Castle Africa 5’s national champions following an entertaining final against Royal Lakes from Soweto, recently held at the Rand Show at Nasrec.

Milano won 4-2, with goals scored by David Martin scoring a brace, Kgopolo Dabula and Brandon Morris giving their team the first Castle Africa 5’s national title.

The Castle Africa 5’s, which has been dubbed Africa’s biggest five-a-side tournament, is played across six countries – Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The finals are set for May 24 to 28 in Lusaka, Zambia.

The tournament is the first of its kind and is set to become the hub of where friendships will be created, nurtured and cemented on the football field.

Brian Baloyi, who is Team South Africa’s mentor, was pleased with the talent on display, “Five-a-side is such an exciting form of football, it is more casual but also very fast-paced and exciting. This tournament is a great way of bringing people together, but I was also pleased with the talent I came across while watching. I am definitely looking forward to mentoring these young men, from the determination they showed this past weekend, they truly have what it takes to score a trip to Russia.”

Brand manager for Castle Lager Africa Thomas Lawrence said that the 2018 edition of the Castle Africa 5’s was a resounding success.

“The tournament has been a huge success and we are excited to be shaping the culture of South African football through this new sponsorship initiative. This partnership aims to impact the lives of many football-loving fans across the continent, while simultaneously creating friendship bonds.”
