The organisation cooks for the homeless, elderly and indigent families in the South. Kirsten Sutherland from the organisation said they made history in March where they cooked 22 000 meals.
“We have worked very hard and our head office in Bloemfontein has decided to revamp this place, so a new Meals on Wheels is on the way. We also urge the community to help us collect plastic containers (ice cream or butter containers) because it helps us when we dish out food, especially soup.
Gerome and Hendrik wrote:
“There is an Afrikaans song by Jurie Els entitled Hoe sê mens dankie?, well that song applies here. For how does one articulate adequately the gratitude we feel for all you people do.
“It is no easy task sourcing the supplies needed, then preparing the meals to feed us and then having to do the cleaning up afterward without any help from any of us, who were blessed with meals.
“Your kindness surpasses what would be willing to dole out to a bunch of homeless and in many cases destitute people. Most people look down on the destitute, and wouldn’t spend the time or effort, to bother with feeding and clothing those in need. Generally speaking, and I speak from personal experience, the average person who has not experience our lives go about their daily living never wanting to get near us or do anything remotely as generous as you and your team do.
“It takes a special kind of person to care as deeply about the plight of others as you and Meals on Wheels do. You, your team and Meals on Wheels are in my estimation “earthbound angels”, who put aside your own trouble and home lives to ensure that we are taken care of in a way that encompasses so much dedication and love that not only warms the heart but nourishes the soul as well.
“So, how does one say thank you to angels? One cannot, for mere words would be lacking in depth for the heartfelt gratitude that I and the others feel towards you, your team and Meals on Wheels. Grace is an enormous gift, and you super humans seem to have an endless supply, to enrich the lives of the destitute with thank you a million times over and may you always know that, that which you do is a blessing to others.”
