The Bag Lady

I popped into Tea or Coffee at Bracken Square, Brackenhurst and was pleasantly surprised.

Easter has passed for another year and what’s next on the calendar? Oh yes, Mother’s Day on May 13.

A special day when you can show your mom just how much she is loved. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be browsing the shops to help you find the perfect gift for her.

Rose care for April

With autumn setting in, you’ll have noticed your roses becoming straggly and the blooms beginning to die off.

Water once a fortnight, remove spent blooms and pinch out growing tips so the next growth produces flowering stems and take care of foliage as roses use food from the leaves in autumn. The season for pest and disease control is nearly over, so you can stop spraying. Give a final dose of fertiliser to ensure additional nutrients for spring.

Tea or Coffee

A reader told me about a lovely coffee shop in Bracken Square, Brackenhurst, so I went along last week and was pleasantly surprised.

Tea or Coffee lifts your mood as soon as you enter, tables with bright lime and orange chairs and soft decorative furnishings.

Owned by Sean Cameron, who by the way is so friendly, Tea or Coffee has been open about eight months. The menu offers breakfasts, including full English, eggs benedict and eggs Florentine, as well as a R30 breakfast, fantastic value for money. Freshly baked croissants and pretzels make a nice change, and Sean bakes his own scones, flapjacks, waffles and muffins as well as delicious biscuits and a cake of the day. For lunch, there are classic and gourmet sandwiches and the most delicious phyllo pastry pies and homemade beef burgers, which are very tasty.

A menu for the little folk is very good and you can ask for colouring-in books to keep them amused while you enjoy a chat.

Of course, there’s coffees and teas which include the Toni Glass Collection of Hot Teas, creamy milkshakes and ice teas.

I especially liked the discount (five per cent) for pensioner’s which is available every day and if granny or grandpa brings her or his whole family or just a few, you’ll get five per cent off the whole bill. Now, that’s what I call a bargain! Also, every Monday if you buy three coffees you’ll get the cheapest one for free. Three friends, three coffees, only pay for two!

Open Monday to Friday 8am to 5.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 3.30pm. Phone 079 611 5177 for more information or to make a booking.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
