BREAKING NEWS: Hijacker nabbed in the south

The motorist who struck the alleged hijacker with his vehicle said the attacker was seen alongside two accomplices attempting to hijack a vehicle.

A SUSPECTED hijacker was knocked over by a motorist when he was running from what is believed to be a crime scene at about 10am today, March 26 (Monday).

JMPD officers pounced on a man believed to be a hijacker after onlookers stopped him on Side Road, near Forest Hill. He was caught with a firearm in his possession. JMPD officers on patrol acted quickly and swooped in forcing the injured assailant who was in possession of a firearm to hand over his firearm.

The armed man was disarmed and arrested.

JMPD officers were still holding the assailant’s firearm as they put him into the police van.

One of the officers confirmed the firearm belonged to the assailant. He said a formal statement would be issued by JMPD spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Onlookers, including the motorist who hit the alleged hijacker with his vehicle, said the attacker was seen alongside two accomplices attempting to hijack a vehicle.

The COURIER is still awaiting a statement detailing if the other two men driving a white car were successful in their getaway after the foiled hijacking attempt.
