Rosettenville complex closed after protests

Tyres were burnt from as early as 05:00 and blocking roads.

Motorist have been advised to stay clear of the Rosettenville area following major protest in the area .

About 100 protesters have taken to the streets to burn tyres in demanding service delivery.

The Rosettenville complex has been closed with a few protesters barricading the entrances.

Talks of foreign nationals taking jobs are amongst some of the protesters concerns.

The protest spokesman Simpiwe Hlafa said the community was tired of crime. Addressing the over 100 protesters he said there had been numerous crimes that have not been attended to in the area.

He said they were taking a stand to gain initiate momentum. They said they were tired of ongoing crimes in the area.

Hlafa said the ATMs had become traps as the community was constantly falling victim.

“There are cracks in the shopping complex parking which can at any moment collapse. ”

Residents confirmed vehicles had been stolen while senior residents were collecting grants.
