Hard work beats talent

Seek help through mentors and coaches in the form of books and in person.

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” – Tim Notke

Talent is the fuel for the fire which will kick-start you towards success and make things easier to get going in the beginning. To get to the top though, there’s no substitute for hard work.

Most people are waiting for their talent and passion to show up before they can commit. The fundamental questions to ask yourself before 2018 are:

1. What do I spend most of my time doing besides my daytime job? Study your 24 hours and be honest with yourself.

2. How can I make what I spend most of my time doing, pay me? How can I monetise it? If you can’t, stop it immediately because it’s wasting your precious time. If you can monetise it, that’s your passion, develop skills around it and work hard on it.

3. Who are the people who live the life you aspire to? Study them and what they read, their daily rituals, who they spend their time with, the food they eat and so on. The truth is success leaves clues. It’s been proven again and again and again also, that failure leaves clues too. So, be careful!

4. Accept that you need help. Never allow your ego to get the better of you. The problem you fear to confront becomes your limitation. You can drink that alcohol and take those drugs to be so drunk and forget about your problem for a short while, but the problem will in the meantime be getting bigger and will still wait for you to regain your memory and face you again. Seek help through mentors and coaches in the form of books and in person.
