Ricardo proves he can cut it

HEROES never wear capes, but they should at least be noticed, say two businessmen who have helped a passionate young man find his niche cutting hair.

Ricardo Loman, a young man from Eldorado Park who had no formal training as a hairdresser, landed himself a job at Partners Hair Design at The Glen and has not looked back since.

The trainee hairdresser soon proved to partners Lewis Thomas and Chase Meakin that they made they right choice when they decided to give him a chance.

This happened a month and a half ago, when a man with a rare skin disease walked into Partners Hair Design.

“He only wanted his sides shaved,” Ricardo told the COURIER. The man apparently did not want anyone touching the top of his scalp as it is liable to flake and bruise if touched roughly or handled the wrong way.

Ricardo convinced the elderly man, who eventually agreed to let Ricardo help him with a proper haircut. The gifted young hairdresser took his time with the razor, carefully removing hair without any damage to the man’s ultra-sensitive scalp.

Tears rolled down the man’s face when Ricardo finished shaving his entire head. He could not believe his eyes; he had only shaved the sides of his head for decades, up to the day he encountered Ricardo.

Dedication and care

Thomas and Meakin said this was what their businesses stood for – a pillar which gave back to their community.

“This is the type of dedication and care, by Ricardo, we want to be a part of.”

The two partners believe a strong team that knows what it is doing is essential in any business. Thomas, who won the Twincare International Hair Stylist of the Year award on November 5, said it was important to identify talent, but nurturing and growing that talent was far more important.

Meakin agreed, adding that running a business was always a challenge, and breaking into new territory was more challenging still.

“We’ve set up stores in Cape Town but are still breaking into the Joburg market.”

The South welcomes this team of motivated and passionate individuals who believe in making a change to everyone’s image, one person at a time. For their part, they welcome anyone to pop into their store for a chat, a coffee and a haircut.
