Man arrested after being stabbed multiple times

The man was stabbed several times after shots were fired.

A FAMILY was left in shock after receiving news that a family member was stabbed multiple times and arrested in Rosettenville on November 19.

A 25-year-old man is currently in hospital after an alleged altercation with a police officer on Sunday morning around 5am.

The victim’s sister, who wishes to remain anonymous, made contact with the COURIER to give details about the horrific ordeal, as told by a witness.

The 29-year-old sister said her brother and three other friends were walking on Stanton Church Lane near Hay Street.

“The group was walking in separate groups of two. Two were on the one side of the street with the other two on the other side of the road.”

She said two of her brother’s friends – who were on the other side of the road – intimidated an old drunk man who was walking around at that hour.

“My brother warned the two who were intimidating the elderly man, to stop. At that very moment an armed man believed to be an officer, arrived on the scene. A few seconds later the man fired two shots in the air as though to warn the group. Two of the four ran at the sound of gunfire. My brother and his friend stayed and the man continued to interrogate them,” she said.

“My brother then produced a knife he had taken from his friends when they tried to intimidate the elderly man and he was ordered to get onto the ground, face first, by the alleged officer. What happened next was what shocked our family.”

She told the COURIER that her brother was somehow stabbed three times in the hand and three times in his back. His friend, who was there with him, died of a stab wound to the throat as well as a gunshot wound. My brother and the witness could not explain how and when his friend was actually stabbed and shot,” she said.

“I am fearing for my life. I was told about this horrific ordeal by a witness who was also afraid to come forward to police after witnessing the encounter.”

She said her brother was at Charlotte Maxeke hospital under arrest and that family members were not allowed to see him. “We only found out he was under arrest when we went to see him.”

She claimed her brother had no clothes to wear and all they wanted to do was provide him with clothes for his court date.

Adding that she did not understand what exactly happened on the Sunday morning, she said she just wanted answers from police, who according to her, were not very helpful.

Booysens police have confirmed the arrest.

The station’s police spokesperson, Captain Lorraine van Emmerik, said the police cannot disclose any information at the moment as the matter is currently under investigation.

Van Emmerik said she did not understand the need to provide clothes as the hospital does cater for their patients.

“I can confirm that he is in hospital under police guard pending an investigation into an ongoing case. The family will be allowed to see him once he is released,” Van Emmerik said.

She said a court date would be set once the man was fit enough to appear in court.

The COURIER is investigating the case and is in the process of verifying the eye witness’s credibility.
