Old age home’s manager under probe

Ward 124 Clr Mongameli Myameni confirmed the manager’s suspension.

CITY of Johannesburg’s Department of Housing has confirmed with the COURIER that the manager of Reuven Old Age Home is under investigation on allegations of corruption.

The protracted investigation started in May this year. Buntukazi Xuba from the housing department said the manager was suspended on allegations of corruption.

“Investigations are still underway as we have not yet received a report from the investigating department,” explained Buntukazi.

With reference to other allegations that some of the residents at the home are living with their children, Buntukazi said, “As a policy of the City, old age homes are only for the aged. Tenants’ grandchildren or children are not allowed to stay with them at the home.”

Ward 124 Clr Mongameli Myameni confirmed the manager’s suspension. “I was told the manager was suspended for alleged fraud and corruption. I also learned that the hall at Reuven Old Age Home was closed and cannot be used by anyone except the municipality,” he said.
