The power of self-esteem

The minute you accept yourself will be the beginning of peace of mind and freedom.

“The strongest single factor in prosperity consciousness is self-esteem: believing you can do it, believing you deserve it, believing you will get it.” – Gerry Gillies.

Self-esteem simply means accepting and appreciating yourself for who you are. It means to always be a first rate of yourself instead of a second rate of somebody else. People with high self-esteem feel good about themselves and appreciate their own worth. At the same time, they acknowledge their weaknesses but they don’t allow those weaknesses to play an irrationally large role in their lives.

People with high self-esteem are happier than those with low self-worth. They are also more likely to take on difficult tasks and persevere in the face of failure. Therefore, they are more likely to succeed. The tragedy is that most people look for self-confidence and self-respect everywhere except within themselves and they fail dismally. So, self-esteem is about loving yourself irrespective of your biological features, race, skin colour, family background, religion and how others feel about you. It’s looking at yourself beyond the so-called imperfections. To me, Veli Ndaba, the word perfection doesn’t exist in my vocabulary. This has made a lot of difference in my life ever since I took it out.

One quote says practice makes perfect. To me, practice makes improvement since perfection doesn’t exist. Remember, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Someone else’s beauty must not define mine.

The minute you accept yourself will be the beginning of peace of mind and freedom. Life is a combination of major and minor things. Self-esteem helps you identify major things, important things to focus on or else you end up majoring in minor things. Be careful of this. Develop your self-esteem and see yourself flourish.
