UPDATE: New hope for Snoopy

“Their wait is finally over and they have found hope in Hope.”

HOPE has arrived for a female dog which had its hind leg amputated.

It was found in a critical condition after a man brutally beat it until its hind leg shattered.

It was saved by Soweto Animal Rescue after the assault in Orlando East, Soweto.

Now the dog formally known as Snoopy has found a new home.

The German shepherd/Border collie cross has since been given the name Hope after her adoption by the Jacobs family.

Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre spokesperson, Jerry Selwane, said the Jacobs family, Wendy and her daughter Elissa, were so touched by Hope’s ordeal that they immediately wanted to adopt and provide a home for her.

HOPE: Left, the Jacobs family welcome their new family member alongside Soweto Animal Rescue’s Jerry Selwane.

“They visited her [Hope] while she was still at the Kibler Veterinary Clinic and have constantly monitored her progress. Their wait is finally over and they have found hope in Hope.”

Selwane said the family vowed to take great care of Hope, who now lives in Croydon, near Kempton Park.

He said the two could not contain their excitement when he brought the three-legged Hope to their home on July 20.

“Go well, girl, we hope you bring your new family lots of happiness,” said Selwane.

Numerous attempts to contact the Jacobs family were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.

Explaining Hope’s ordeal, Selwane said she had made a remarkable recovery.

He praised everyone who played a role in this special story.

He also appealed to community members to continue to help the rescue centre, as it depends on donations to survive.

Donations can be made to the Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre, Nedbank account number: 103 038 7311; branch code: 198105.
