[VIDEOS]: Rosettenville protest injuries

Protesters suffered injuries during a demonstration on Saturday, January 11.

ROSETTENVILLE quickly became the talk of the town on Saturday, January 11, as protesters clashed with the police, leading to several women and men being shot with rubber bullets.

Injured demonstrators experienced the wrath of the law after SAPS officers fired shots to disperse the crowds.

Some residents claimed that the protesters were angered by the police’s use of force and that led them to start burning more houses.

WATCH:

Numerous protesters were seen lying on the ground from breathing in too much teargas. Others rushed to the nearest houses to wash their faces with tap water and cover their mouths with wet sheets to avoid inhaling the gas.

The protesters were out to support what is now a continuous movement to eradicate prostitution, drug dealing and house hijacking in the suburb.

MEDICAL CARE: Injured people who could not handle the pain were rushed to the South Rand Hospital.

ELDERLY: This senior resident was shot on the leg during the protests.
INJURED: A rubber bullet hit a woman in the chest and left a mark.
