City Deep Hostel women form committee
Hostel women to start a women's committee to deal with women's issue in the South.
CITY Deep hostels women of ward 57 got together on Wednesday, August 31, to celebrate the last day of Women’s Month and to launch a women’s committee that will deal with issues affecting women in the South.
The committee is aimed at aiding women from various suburbs in the South by making sure there is at least one women to represent each suburb. Clr Faeeza Chame believes having a committee that is made up of members from various areas in the South will make the committee more effective. These members will be able to communicate with the member from their area who will then raise any issues at the committee meetings.
Steve Serapelo, the complex manager, said this is a good initiative that will get the support of the complex and JOSHCO to make sure that women in the South can achieve their objectives.
“A lot of women are abused on a daily basis here in the South. We are going to be tackle things like those and with membership so widespread, we will reach a larger society. We also want to provide skills programmes to empower our women and we are also going to push to get a clinic and a crèche at this hostel,” said Clr Chame.
Clr Chame added that another objective of the committee is to continue hosting events like this one and show people that there is a lot of good in hostels because when you say hostel, most people think of a very hostile place.
