New Speaker and City Manager to be elected

This day could make history and see the DA take governance in the city of Johannesburg, following the recent polls where the ANC failed to win the municipality by majority.

A new speaker and city manager will be elected as hundreds gather at the Johannesburg Municipal office on Braamfontein before heading to the city hall in the Johannesburg City hall for the Inaugural Meeting of Council this Monday, August 22.

This day could make history and see the DA take governance in the city of Johannesburg, following the recent polls where the ANC failed to win the municipality by majority.

If the EFF vote with the DA as they made it clear they would not vote for the ANC, Herman Mashaba could be DA’s first Mayor of the city.

The EFF had said they do not see Mashaba as a fit and experienced candidate, it remains to be seen whether they will vote the DA into power as they had asked the DA to appoint another candidate but the DA refused based on principles that people voted for Mashaba as he was put up as candidate.

MMC Ruby Mathang and MMC Dan Bovu, recently denied EFF’s accusations of attempting to bribe its Councillors to vote for ANC today and he also spoke against the accusations on the news.
