JMPD awareness campaign offers road safety tips

The activation focused on the importance of reporting corrupt officials, the risks of offering bribes to officials and offered road safety tips.

JOHANNESBURG Metro Police Department (JMPD) Community Outreach Unit (region F2) hosted an awareness campaign at entrance six of the Southgate Mall on Thursday, July 7.

The activation focused on the importance of reporting corrupt officials, the risks of offering bribes to officials and offered road safety tips.

This was just one of many activations the JMPD was hosting to reach out to the community in the fight against corruption and crime. The public was also given tips and advice on road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, and warned of the dangers intoxicated road users pose to other road users. School holidays and weekends were highlighted as busy periods for children who are in danger of being run over during their playtime.

The officers also took time to educate the public of the procedures and limits of breathalysing and encouraged people not to drive after any alcohol consumption. Officers urged the public to read and pay attention to the instructions from doctors or pharmacists when collecting or purchasing medication as the side effects of taking some medications can impair a person’s visual or physical ability, rendering them a danger to themselves and other road users.

Southgate Mall continues to make public information accessible to the community by providing a platform for the public service to reach the masses.
